When it comes down to choosing between an plasma and a LCD TV; you have to decide where your priorities are. Price and quality are two major factors that divide Plasma and LCD TV’s. Other, more minor, problems include the Plasma’s potential to “burn images” into the screen if left paused to long or frame rate on lower end LCD’s. LCD’s are in general more affordable than Plasma’s. The price can ranges anywhere from three hundred to over two thousand. However Plasma’s that are comparable will generally run about fifty to one hundred and fifty dollars more. The HD capability is available on both TV in either 720p or 1080p. Depending on whether or not you have ever owned an HD TV previously or not, the difference between the 720p and 1080p may or may not make a difference to you. Higher pixel counts will make a sharper and cleaner image that will stand out if you have never owned an HD TV, however, if indeed you have not owned one before you may not notice the difference between the 720p and 1080p. Technical differences greatly divide the two TV’s. Because of the way that Plasma TV’s are made they are historically more clear in dark or low light images where as the LCD is a more neutral between the dark and light scenes. Also because of the way the LCD’s are lit, they require more power to generate a picture causing them to consume slightly more power than a plasma. Because of some of these lower quality aspects of LCD TV’s they are much more affordable and may be the best choice for those of you that are just getting into the HD line of products. For some, Plasma TV’s offer higher quality albeit at a slightly higher price.
